Tracking our evolution

Interlink is founded by Federico F. Sánchez Febles, “Fred”, a civil engineer with an MBA from Harvard Business School. Fred has a vision for elevating Puerto Rico's built environment through a commitment to excellence and trusted, long-lasting partnerships.

The company's first project is the complete renovation of the Condado Holiday Inn into the Condado Plaza.

1977

1980s

A close-knit, talent-driven team builds a reputation for precision and execution. Interlink develops Panasonic's headquarters in Puerto Rico and takes on the pre-development of a 300-acre parcel owned by Citibank that becomes Los Paseos, San Juan's first master-planned residential community.

In partnership with Banco Popular, Interlink begins assembling blighted properties in Santurce around an ambitious idea: to revitalizing San Juan's former urban core.

1990s

Interlink inaugurates Centro Europa in Santurce, spear heading its urban renewal.

Federico J. Sánchez, "Fede," joins Interlink after earning his MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Interlink expands beyond development into hospitality and commercial real estate. Las Casitas Village at El Conquistador Resort becomes Puerto Rico's first condo hotel and earns the AAA Five Diamond Award.

To bring new energy to Centro Europa's retail lobby, Interlink enters the restaurant business, bringing Pizzeria UNO from Chicago to Puerto Rico and opening its first location in 1992.

Together with local partners, Interlink acquires the historic Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan and restores it to its former elegance. These projects further establish Interlink's presence across some of Puerto Rico's most important urban and hospitality destinations.

Hermand Méndez, P.E., joins Interlink as a key project manager, bringing substantial experience from major construction firms.

2000s

After growing the UNO franchise to seven restaurants throughout the Island, Interlink transitions the chain to another restaurant group. José "Pepe" Delgado joins Interlink from Banco Popular's structured finance group.

After 11 years with the firm, Fede becomes president and partner, representing the second generation of leadership at Interlink. Armando "Mandy" Vilas joins Interlink after graduating from The Wharton School.

Interlink acquires 500 acres in Río Grande and creates Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club, bringing St. Regis to the property and establishing Puerto Rico's first Five-Star hotel. Interlink wins the right to develop the headquarters hotel for the new Puerto Rico Convention Center, leading to the 2009 opening of the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino. Cosmopolitan rises above the Condado Lagoon, becoming a luxury residential landmark in Miramar.

2010s

As Puerto Rico confronts the prolonged effects of the Great Financial Crisis, Interlink restructures the business for the next stage of its evolution. The company organizes around three complementary business units: Development, Construction, and Asset Management. Interlink also expands its in-house construction capabilities to create Interlink Construction, a general contractor serving third-party clients across multiple asset classes.

The St. Regis® Bahía Beach Resort opens in 2010. In 2011, Interlink partners with Rockwood Capital to acquire the San Juan Marriott from AIG. In 2015, Interlink acquires the shuttered Ambassador Hotel in Condado from Elliott Management and reopens the property as Puerto Rico's first AC Hotel by Marriott. In 2019, Interlink breaks ground on the Residence Inn in Isla Verde.

2020s

Interlink continues expanding its role in Puerto Rico's growing hospitality sector.

The company develops the Residence Inn Isla Verde from the ground up. Palacio Provincial opens as a sister property to Hotel El Convento. Interlink acquires the Verdanza Hotel in partnership with Vivo Beach Club and reimagines the property as Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde. Interlink also acquires the Hampton Inn Isla Verde from its original owner.

Together, these investments establish Interlink as the owner and asset manager of the largest hotel-room portfolio in the San Juan area.

Today

Interlink's founding values still guide everything it builds: lasting partnerships, thoughtful execution, and real estate that contributes meaningfully to Puerto Rico's urban and resort landscapes.

Today, that same standard guides a growing portfolio of signature projects across the island and a clear focus on what comes next: creating the developments that will help shape Puerto Rico's future.
