Tracking our evolution

Interlink is founded by Federico F. Sánchez, a civil engineer with an MBA from Harvard Business School. Fred had a vision to elevate Puerto Rico's built environment through a commitment to excellence and by creating trusted, long-lasting partnerships.

The company's debut project is the full renovation of the Condado Holiday Inn into the Condado Plaza.

1977

1980s

A close-knit, talent-driven team establishes a reputation for precision and execution. Interlink develops the Panasonic headquarters in Puerto Rico and takes on the pre-development challenges for a 300-acre parcel owned by Citibank that then becomes Paseos, the first master-planned residential community in San Juan.

In partnership with Banco Popular, the company began assembling blighted properties in Santurce with an idea few believed possible: bringing San Juan’s former urban core back to life.

1990s

Interlink inaugurates Centro Europa in Santurce, and the urban renewal vision is realized.

Federico J. Sánchez (“Fede”) joins Interlink after completing an MBA at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Interlink expands beyond development into hospitality and commercial real estate. Las Casitas Village at El Conquistador Resort became the first condo hotel in Puerto Rico and earned the coveted AAA Five Diamond Award.

In order to bring life to Centro Europa’s retail lobby, Interlink invests in the restaurant business and brings Pizzeria UNO from Chicago opening the first in '92. The historic Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan is acquired and brought back to its former elegance with local partners. Interlink projects became key Puerto Rico landmarks.

Hermand Mendez, P.E., joins interlink as a key project manager bringing with him substantial experience working with major construction firms.

2000s

After successfully growing the UNO franchise to 7 restaurants, Interlink sells the chain to another restaurant conglomerate.

Jose “Pepe” Delgado joins Interlink from the structured finance group at Banco Popular.

After 11 years at the firm, Fede is appointed president and made partner, becoming the second generation to lead the company.

Interlink acquires 500 acres in Río Grande, creates Bahia Beach Resort and Golf Club, and signs on St. Regis to become the first 5-Star hotel in Puerto Rico.

The rights to develop the headquarters hotel for the new Puerto Rico Convention Center are won by Interink which gives way to the 2009 inauguration of the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino.

The Cosmopolitan rises over the Condado Lagoon, becoming a luxury residential landmark in Miramar.

Armando “Mandy” Vilas, joins Interlink after graduating from The Wharton School.

2010s

Interlink focuses on overcoming the risks and uncertainty brought by the Great Financial Crisis that hit PR particularly hard. The company restructures itself for what is coming, consolidating into three complementary and value-add SBUs: Development, Construction, and Asset Management. The company evolves the in-house construction division to form Interlink Construction, a general contractor with capabilities to serve third-party clients across various asset classes.

The St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort is inaugurated in 2010.

In 2011, Interlink with Rockwood Capital buys the San Juan Marriott from AIG.

In 2015, Interlink acquires the shuttered Ambassador Hotel in Condado from hedge fund Elliott Management and reopens it as the first AC Hotel by Marriott in Puerto Rico.

In 2019, Interlink breaks ground on the Residence Inn in Isla Verde.

2020s

Interlink continues to drive the development of Puerto Rico's booming hotel industry. The Residence Inn Isla Verde is developed from the ground up. Palacio Provincial opens as a sister hotel to El Convento. The Verdanza hotel is acquired with Vivo Beach Club and reimagined as the Hyatt Centric San Juan Isla Verde.

Interlink acquires the Hampton Inn Isla Verde from its original owner.

These strategic developments establish Interlink as the owner/asset-manager of the largest number of hotel rooms in the San Juan area.

Today

Interlink's legacy is guided by our values, reflected in lasting partnerships and best-in-class real estate that shape Puerto Rico's urban and resort landscapes with care and experience. That same standard now drives a portfolio of signature projects across the island and a clear focus on what's next: building the next generation of developments that will define Puerto Rico's future.
